Map Maker Training at Central Mindanao University

October 30, 2014, Jeffry C. Manhulad, the Google Student Ambassador (GSA) – South East Asia from Liceo de Cagayan University, finally conducted the Map Maker Training at Central Mindanao University situated at Maramag, Bukidnon. Thirty students were chosen through online registration and additional ten passersby, in a total of 40 participants. The registrants were not limited within the university but were also extended to all nearby schools. In the said event, participants from Bukidnon State University, AMA Computer College CDO joined but most of the students are from Central Mindanao University taking up BS Information Technology.

The GSA program was been discussed and opportunities were opened for the students to know more about being a Google Student Ambassador, the needed conditions and roles in their campus. For those who can still qualify, they were highly encouraged to join the program.

Overall, the Map Maker Training’s purpose was to introduce and train the students in Google Map Making. Jeffry showed and taught the participants where to start, how to improve Google Map especially their desired places to upgrade, and what are the do’s and don’ts. Students got more interested and excited as they tried to edit places.

With the assistance of Google to make the event possible and fruitful, the budget was given for the snacks and Google T-shirt as freebies.

About Project UGOP Bukidnon

Project UGOP (Unveiling Google Opportunities for Progress) is a project for the Province of Bukidnon spearheaded by Jeffry C. Manhulad, the Google Student Ambassador (GSA) - Southeast-Asia for Liceo de Cagayan University. The word ‘ugop” was derived from a Manobo (a tribe in Bukidnon) term which means to help. The project aims to spread the Google Technologies which can greatly help students and teachers make their school works easier. Jeffry, being a Google Apps advocate and a hardworking member-volunteer at Google Developers Group (GDG) - Cagayan de Oro (CDO) was given the chance to apply for the Google Student Ambassadors Program and became an Ambassador with the help of GDG-CDO Manager, Ms. Josan Astrid Dometita. He was one of the 150 Google Student Ambassadors in Southeast-Asia who were invited to attend the GSA Summit 2014 held at Cebu City, Philippines which was attended by students from eight countries in Southeast-Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, and Philippines.

With this once-in-a-lifetime chance of becoming an Ambassador of Google, who are tasked to “do cool things that matter” to the community and organize the GSA Program in his university. The program, which is backed by a team of students, the Google Students at Liceo de CagayanUniversity will help Google spread its technologies which can greatly impact the community, giving them chances to grab lots of opportunities to join Google programs either for students, educators, developers, and more.

The Project UGOP, which is just one of the many programs organized by thousands of GSAs around the world, will bring Google closer to the communities, not just in the city but also in provinces like Bukidnon and other places in Northern Mindanao since events organized by the GSAs is supported by Google, and therefore it is free and fun!

Seminar-Workshop on Google Technologies (GMail, GDrive, GDocs) | Project UGOP v1.0

The Project UGOP Bukidnon kick off its version 1.0 at Talakag Bukidnon conducting Seminar-Workshops on Google Technologies for Elementary teachers of Talakag Central School and Cacaon Elementary School last August 16, 2014.

12 lucky teachers joined the seminar-workshop and were able to sign-up for their own Google account.

The teacher-attendees were also given the chances to learn about the power of Google's email service--GMail and other Google Apps for education.

The teachers were even more thrilled as they experience the file collaboration capability of Google Drive and Google Docs, and also the Google URL shortener. It's one of the most useful free apps of Google for its online customers.

#GSA @ CIT General Assembly: An Introduction to Google Student Ambassadors Program and other Google Communities

GSA @ CIT General Assembly is the first zero-budget event of Jeffry Manhulad, the Google Student Ambassador from Liceo de Cagayan University. The event is centered on introducing the GSA Program--how to become one of the growing number of cool students around the world, and how to join other opportunities given by Google. It also introduces  other available Google communities such as the Google Developers Group - Cagayan de Oro (GDG-CDO), Google Business Group  - Cagayan de Oro (GBG-CDO), and Google Educators Group (GEG), and the new community of students at LDCU, the Google Students at Liceo de Cagayan University.

The event aims to spread the good news and opportunities in this program, and to let students know that Google cares for all of us whether we are students, developers, businessmen, educators or anyone who are passionate to learn about Google technologies.

Good News: The Google Student Ambassador Program

Google Student Ambassador batch 2014-2015 during the
GSA Southeast Asia Summit 2014 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Cebu City
The Google Student Ambassador Program is an opportunity for students to act as liaisons between Google and their universities. These ambassadors:
  • Learn about innovative Google products and programs.
  • Plan and host fun events on campus.
  • Act as a campus contact for Google teams.
  • Help Google better understand each university’s culture.

GSAs are expected to conduct activities in their respective schools and communities in order to develop talents; spread the word about cool and useful products; and reflect an image of Googleyness.
